The Dead Call

There’s a relatively new phenomenon that’s been a hot debate topic among the paranormal community. It’s called the dead call. I thought I would bring it up for discussion on here.

The basic concept is that after someone dies they occasionally make a phone call to one of their loved ones. Sometimes the spirit says a word or phrase and the people receiving the call can recognize the familiar voice of their loved one. Other times there is static or silence on the line when someone picks up. There have even been a few cases where a dead call left a message on an answering machine or voicemail.

The call is almost always traced to the number of the deceased person. Sometimes it’s a number that has been disconnected for years. But the dead call happens mostly with people who have died recently. Quite a few people have reported this happening, though I haven’t had any direct personal experience with it. I have heard a few examples of dead calls and sometimes they are pretty chilling.

Here's a link to an example of a possible 'dead call' and a link to a story about a phone making a series of calls after an accident, long after the phone owner had died.

Modern technology has changed the way we interact with each other. Do you think that technology could allow for the deceased to interact with us as well?

  1. Sounds spooky ... kind of like the Mothman Prophecies.

  3. First, since you've heard some examples can you post a link or perhaps upload an mp3 onto your site so that I can hear it.

Second, how is this different than electronic voice phenomenon? They sound remarkably similar.

  4. There are some legitimate cases out there but most of the ones I have heard about are false.

If they can call, they can probably do something a little closer to home, so to speak.

  5. Is this the same as White noise? If I received one of these calls, I would freak!!!

  6. Michael, I've added a couple of links to the post with examples, although I couldn't find one of the better examples I've heard- the voice of a young teenager saying 'mom' shortly after perishing in an accident. The difference between an EVP and a dead call is that EVP's are captured on digital recorders (the spirit is thought to be 'in' the room where it's captured.) While dead calls just come across phone lines as if the spirit is actually making a call with their own phone.

Jennifer, I think it's important to remember that there are always going to be people out there that make things up. It's up to us to figure out who is being genuine. I think the idea is a real possibility though.

Ryan, the white noise thing is pretty similar. It could even be the same basic principal with two different mediums (phone lines and white noise.) Most of the time people running white noise are trying to contact the other side. Most of the people who get these strange calls are just regular people who aren't seeking out contact.

  7. That "Hey Lanna" thing is pretty freaky. I also enjoyed reading about the cell phone call made from the train. Extremely interesting.

  8. Yeah I read a couple articles about the train thing and thought it was interesting because the police actually confirmed that it happened.
